PLEASE NOTE REGULATIONS IN OWN CHOICE CLASSES (Rules 10 & 11). THE TITLE AND PUBLISHER OF OWN CHOICE PIECE AND COPY MUST BE SENT WITH THE ENTRY FORM. All set books are available from any good bookshop
IN THE INTERESTS OF UPHOLDING THE ART OF VERSE SPEAKING, THIS FESTIVAL DISCOURAGES THE USE OF MOVEMENT AND GESTURE IN VERSE SPEAKING AND SONNET CLASSES, with the exception of Comic Verse Classes 130, 132, 138 and 115
  • The committee reserves the right to refuse to accept any Speech and Drama item that contains language that may cause offence. See Rule 20
  • Competitors may only enter once in any solo class. See Rule 7
  • More than one duologue may not be performed with the same partner.
  • Acting solos and duologues: Own choice of a scene from any play. (Shakespeare solos accepted in Classes 118 and 119 only).
  • No Costume. Hand props only allowed.

Class 120 SOLO IMPROVISATION (11 years and under) Joyce McKay Trophy £3.50

Class 121 SOLO IMPROVISATION (12 years and under 16 years) Whittaker Trophy £4.00

Class 122 OWN COMPOSITION (15 years and under) Festival Shield £4.00
  Compose and Submit an unpublished poem. A copy of the poem should be sent with the entry form for adjudication. For an additional mark it should be read on Festival day. If the competitor is not present to perform during the class an adjudication will be given but a mark will not be awarded.    
Class 122a OWN COMPOSITION (16 years and above) Festival Shield £4.00
  Compose and Submit an unpublished poem. A copy of the poem should be sent with the entry form for adjudication.  For an additional mark it should be read on Festival day.  If the competitor is not present to perform during the class an adjudication will be given but a mark will not be awarded    
Class 123 PREPARED MIME (15 years and under). Festival Shield £4.00
  Prepare a mime not lasting more than 2 minutes on the theme "Going Home" OR "Entertaining". Hand props, vocal utterance and costumes will NOT be allowed    
Class 124 PREPARED MIME (16 years and over) Festival Shield £5.00
  Prepare a mime lasting not more than 3 minutes on the theme of "Delayed" OR " Disaster in the Kitchen". Hand props, vocal utterance and costumes will NOT be allowed    
Class 125 JUNIOR DUOLOGUE (11yrs and under) Eatough Trophy £5.00
  Own Choice. No competitor may enter this class more than twice, and not with the same partner. A COPY OF THE PIECE MUST BE SENT WITH ENTRY    
Class 126 JUNIOR DUOLOGUE (15years and under) Kathandra Cups £5.00
  One partner must be 12 to 15 years of age. No competitor may appear in this class more than twice and not with the same partner. A COPY OF THE PIECE MUST BE SENT WITH ENTRY  
Class127 SENIOR DUOLOGUE Vera Toolan Trophy £6.00
  One competitor must be 16 years or over – the partner may be younger. No competitor may enter more than twice in this class and not with the same partner. A COPY OF THE PIECE MUST BE SENT WITH ENTRY    
Class 128 PREPARED READING FROM THE BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER (11-18 years)   £4.00
 

To speak or read passages from the 1662 Prayer Book of not less than 3, or more than 5minutes duration. The passages chosen by the competitor should be selected from the following:

  • A selection from Morning prayer, Evening Prayer or Holy Communion (omitting any priestly words - absolution, consecration, blessing)
  • A suitable passage from services of Baptism, Marriage or Burial (again no priestly words)
  • A suitable passage or selection from elsewhere in the Book of Common Prayer e.g. The Litany, Special Prayers and Thanksgivings, the Catechism, Communion, Forms of Prayer to be used at sea.
  • A selection of Psalms
  • The Collect, Epistle and Gospel for any Sunday or Holy Day (or part there from)

Competitors should have passed their eleventh but have not attained their nineteenth birthday by 1st December

Each competitor will receive a copy of the Book of Common Prayer or a Book Token. In addition the BLACKBURN BRANCH of the PRAYER BOOK SOCIETY will award a FIRST PRIZE of £20.  
Class 131 RECITAL CLASS (any age) Festival Shield £5.00
  A linked programme of 3 items of poetry, prose and/or drama to be performed on a theme of the competitor’s choice. Not to exceed 10 minutes. None of the material may be used in any other class. A COPY OF EACH PIECE MUST BE SENT WITH ENTRY    
Class 135 JUNIOR VERSE SPEAKING CHAMPIONSHIP (under 12 years) E & M Clarke Trophy  
  Winners in classes 80, 82, 83 and 84 will take part in this competition.    
Class 136 JUNIOR VERSE SPEAKING CHAMPIONSHIP (12 -15yrs) Fleetwood Round Table Rose Bowl  
  Winners in classes 85, 86 and 94 will take part in this competition.    
Class 137 JUNIOR ACTING CHAMPIONSHIP (under 12) Festival Shield  
Class 138 SPEECH CHAMPIONSHIP (12 -15yrs) Gina Penkeyman Trophy  
Class 139 DUOLOGUE CHAMPIONSHIP Festival Shield  
  Winners in classes 125, 126 and 127 will take part in this competition    
The Maureen Tyler Cup will be awarded to the competitor aged 16, 17 or 18 years gaining the highest mark in any solo speech class, including Reading and Improvisation on Saturday 2nd Oct.
A Certificate will be awarded to the competitor with the highest mark in classes 87, 91, 95, 116, & 119.
The Fleetwood competitor gaining the highest marks in the Acting and Shakespeare solo classes will be eligible for the Onward Theatre Festival Trophy. This will be presented during the Championship classes at Fleetwood High School, during the early evening.
