In early March
2009, Sylvia Jones passed away after a long battle with
cancer. Sylvia was a good friend of the Festival and a valued
member of the committee. In our Jubilee year Sylvia compiled
a record of the Festival over its 50 years.
She will be sadly
missed by us all.
The following
is taken from an article printed in the Gazette in March,
in tribute to
Sylvia.
TOWN'S TRIBUTE
TO OWN QUEEN OF PROUD TRADITION
'THE Fylde coast's
very own Queen Victoria has died aged 74. Sylvia Jones,
from Fleetwood, passed away on Monday after a long baffle
with cancer.
The former secretary
for Tram Sunday would turn up for the event dressed in her
regalia and would also visit schools to teach youngsters
about Queen Victoria in history lessons.
Mrs Jones qualified
as a teacher in 1957 and married her husband, Victor, in
1972. The couple moved to Fleetwood in 1986 where they were
keen fundraisers for Fleetwood Lifeboat and supporters of
Tram Sunday.
